FSS publishes new Research on Migration, Remittance and Economic Impacts
ADDIS ABABA-Wednesday, December 19, 2018-Forum for Social Studies (FSS) this week published a new research monograph titled: Migration, Remittance and Socio Economic Wellbeing: the case of South Africa and the Middle East.
The research was conducted with the financial assistance from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), ACP-EU Migration Action. The issue of migration and remittance is one of the important issues of concern and areas of engagement for FSS and IOM, ACP-EU Migration Action.
The research discusses at length, the ‘push’ and ‘pull’ factors of labor migration from Ethiopia to the two destinations, and most importantly, the challenges with using the formal channels for migrants to send money back home, including how the socio-economic impacts of remittance, i.e. how the money is being used by the people at the receiving end. It also puts forward recommendation for policy makers and stakeholders working on migration at national and international levels. The publication of this monograph is believed to add to the existing research and body of knowledge on the subject.
The book is now on sale at cost of printing at FSS Library (new FSS building in Kebena, on the street between Sanford International School and Catholic Kidanemehret Church), and at other major Book Stores, including Addis Ababa University Book Centre, Universal Book Shop, Book World, Book Corner and Ankeboot Book Shop.
