New Publication on Female Domestic Work in Ethiopia

The Forum for Social Studies (FSS) has released a new publication titled “Female Domestic Work in Ethiopia: Realities, Challenges and Pathways to Protection”. The book comes as a culmination of  the research project implemented by FSS under the title: “Female Domestic Work in Ethiopia: Current Situation and Future Reform.”

The main objective of the study was to generate knowledge on the existing situation and direction of change of female domestic work in Ethiopia and aims to inform national policy and legislation on the subject. The book explores the social, economic, and legal dimensions of domestic work, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities faced by women in this sector, including recommendations to policy makers and other stakeholders.

In addition to the book, a model legislation and policy briefs prepared from the research works have been produced as key outputs of the research. These are intended to support policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders working on labor rights, gender equality, and social protection.

The publications, now available for dissemination,  are believed to contribute significantly to ongoing dialogues on improving the conditions and recognition of female domestic workers in Ethiopia.
