Stakeholders Convene to Promote Equity and Inclusion in Ethiopia’s Textile and Garment Sector
As part of the “Productive Employment and Decent Work for Youth and Women in the Textile and Garment Manufacturing Sector in Ethiopia” initiative, the Forum for Social Studies (FSS), in partnership with INCLUDE, organized a roundtable discussion on January 23, 2025, at Best Western Plus Hotel, Addis Ababa. The event focused on “Promoting equity and inclusion in Ethiopia’s textile and garment manufacturing sector”.
The discussion brought together key stakeholders, including industry representatives, policymakers, labor organizations, and development partners, to explore the sector’s role in employment generation, existing challenges, and potential policy interventions.
Key issues highlighted included the need for stronger policy implementation, enhanced worker protections, fair wages, and improved collaboration between employers and employees. Participants emphasized that fostering an inclusive and equitable working environment requires coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to ensure sustainable employment opportunities that benefit both workers and businesses.
The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange and strategic dialogue, reinforcing the commitment to enhancing social and economic equity in one of Ethiopia’s key industrial sectors.

FSS, in partnership with INCLUDE, has launched an initiative aiming to establish the African Policy Dialogues in Ethiopia (APD-Ethiopia) to bridge the gap between knowledge generation and policy-making or practice, by connecting key stakeholders and fostering meaningful discussions.
As part of this collaborative effort, FSS is hosting an inception workshop on June 20, 2024, at the Hilton Hotel to introduce the initiative “Productive Employment and Decent Work for Youth and Women in the Textile and Garment Manufacturing Sector in Ethiopia.”
The event will bring together Stakeholders from various relevant sectors, to engage in meaningful discussions and outline action steps for ongoing stakeholder engagement. This project will ultimately lead to the establishment of APD-Ethiopia.
